Really bad weekend, had to take care of an emergency work situation. We had K's parents over too, so I didn't get a chance to spend a lot of time with them. While they were here I did manage to go out on a 'date' with my wife for once. We went out to a nice Italian restaurant and saw a movie at the Davis Theater. Feel tired, stayed up late finishing stuff up. N's teething again, she seems like she's in a lot of pain, poor baby. Can't write much today as I have some potentially hardcore meetings this morning. I feel confident that I can handle whatever problems I'm presented with.

One thing I know is that the first things you do with any new medium are worth keeping. You may later on down the line become such an expert in Abelton that you feel your early recordings are very amateur but other people will not. I have a theory. If you look at the first three movies of any actor you pretty much get the feel for them. Of couse there are exceptions. But the same for albums and musicians. And sometimes the early work is the best. More raw primitive etc. Whatever. And even your own conceptions perceptions will sometimes limit you so you are more free at the beginning

Can you imagine yourself as a fish
Well K. is going through some hormone/pregnancy sickness so after we grilled she fell asleep and I have to take care of N. now. Looks like I'm not running today, I wound up taking her to the park for a while. I didn't get hardly anything done this weekend, except almost done with the Ableton training. N. is going crazy - right now the only thing she eats is Lucky Charms cereal, but only the marshmallows. So every time she eats all the marshmallow she throws a tantrum until I make her another bowl of cereal.
Oh yeah and we sold my car so now we're down to one car - my wife's shitty Ford Focus hatchback. And I have to take the train to work tomorrow.
I don't know how I'm going to like taking public trans to work. I think it's probably going to suck, especially in the winter. I may get to do some people watching and I may save some money (but not much probably). What I'm hoping for is that, now that I'm taking the train to work I can read and do work while travelling to and from work - so I'll get to put in an extra two hours work a day, and I'll be more productive on the job. I'm sort of forcing myself into a situation where I have pretty much nothing else to do but apply myself more at work, so hopefully I'll start doing even better at work and eventually I'll get a better job. That's the best thing that can come out of this. Since K. is a teacher and doesn't work in the summer she won't need to drive for the next three months anyway and I could take her car to work if I want, but I think I'll still try to take the train to work.
In the fall, when the new baby arrives, we'll have to upgrade K's car to a larger car that will fit two baby seats - probably a compact SUV. Our number one choice right now is like a Subaru Forrester or Outback - I'm also really pushing for Volvo wagons. At least my wife and kids will be commuting in style.
We had a great weekend, though. We applied for our passports. Then we basically hung out at my mom's pretty much all day yesterday and today. We grilled out pork chops today, which were excellent. And we took N. to the park too, I love that. I think I get as much of a kick of going to the park as she does. She'll go to bed soon, she seems pretty worn out from this afternoon. I'm going to ask my wife to make fruit and peanut butter smoothies, fold laundry, then study Ableton the rest of the night until we fall asleep. I don't really want to go back to work tomorrow but such is life.

Goal Pace (GP): Your per-mile goal marathon pace.
Tempo Runs (T): For 11-minute Marathon Goal Pace (MGP) (4:48:25), run 10:28 (1 mile); for 10-minute MGP (4:22:12), run 9:31; for 9-minute MGP (3:55:58), run 8:34. Recovery is slow jogging for the number of minutes in parentheses.
Cruise Intervals (C): For 11-minute MGP, run 9:56 (1 mile), 7:49 (1,200); for 10-minute MGP, run 9:02 and 6:47; for 9-minute MGP, run 8:07 and 6:06. Recovery is half the distance of the repetition.
Speed Intervals (SI): For 11-minute MGP, run 4:52 (800), 2:26 (400); for 10-minute MGP, run 4:17, 2:08; for 9-minute MGP, run 3:50, 1:55. Recovery is equal distance (e.g., 400 jog for 400 repeats).
Total Uphill Time (TUT): The total number of minutes you spend running semi-vigorously up inclines-- repeats up the same hill or total uphill time over a hilly loop.
Warmup/Cooldown: Run 15 minutes easy followed by 4x100m strides before each Tuesday/Thursday session and 15 minutes easy at the end.
Strides (S): Gradual, smooth accelerations over 100 meters (straightaway on a track), running fast and controlled over the middle third--but NEVER SPRINTING--then just as gradually decelerating. Walk to full recovery after each.
Race Day Rules: "Go 10 to even 15 seconds per mile slower than your goal pace for the first 5-8 miles," counsels coach Bob Williams. You will see a big payoff later. When things start to get interesting, say at 18 to 20 miles, you'll have some gas in the tank.
